FIVE QUESTIONS.

1.  How long have you been collecting and customizing the 1/6 scale and 12-inch action figure hobby?

Almost 3 years.  Man, time flies…

2.  How did you get started in the hobby?

I bought a Final Fantasy Dr. Aki Ross figure on day on a whim – it was sale for really cheap.  I always thought that Aki was hot as far as computer generated women go but sadly the doll just didn’t do her justice.  Shortyl after, I stumbled across Louie’s ****ing awesome Dawgestyle site!  Louie’s figures and passion for the hobby really inspired me to give customizing a shot.  He made the 1/6 guys look ****ing badass, and the women look ****ing hot!  I’d also like to mention Kevin Ip, whose famous figures site linked 1/6 head sculpts with known celebrities.  Both Louie and Kevin had a passion for movie type custom figures and they were both doing some really cool **** man.  The fact they were both very classy and helpful guys also was pretty cool.

3.  We all have other hobbies that we like, but why this one?  What is the main “hook” that inspires you to continue your passion for this particular hobby?

The big thing is being able to make figures that aren’t out there that you want for yourself.  I remember seeing a mass produced Medicom Matrix Neo doll, 3 years ago, selling for $200 US.  I said **** that – and made my own.  Being my first kitbash, it was less than stellar – but it was a lot of fun.  After that, I learned that you really can take this hobby as far as you want.   Like, say you get pretty good at painting, then try sewing.  If you get bored of that, then try sculpting, then maybe photography.  Each of those disciplines are hobbies in their own right, so there’s lots to learn – and can be humbling at times.  I’d like to master them all someday… SPOILER ALERT: It ain’t gonna happen – but I’ll have fun anyway – and that’s what it’s all about.
